I used both Quotes for Living and Quotes for Writing as inspiration during the application process for business school. Reading through the quotations helped me structure my own self reflection and enabled me to deliver more thoughtful, focused essays. I even referenced certain quotations in my essays, and I’m happy to say I was accepted to Harvard Business School.

I picked up your book last July....I have enjoyed it a great deal. How can I purchase 15 copies this January for a special gathering of women on January 22? Thank you for putting this book together.
--S.S. from PA

My wife and I went shopping and I stopped in the store where your book was being sold and you were there and even signed it for me. Well, anyway, just wanted to let you know how much I use the book and enjoy trying to match a quote with a situation. Thanks and do you have any other books of similar info? Thanks,

While on vacation in Nova Scotia, Canada, I bought your book "Quotes for Coping". I've just opened my own spa/esthetics' salon and was looking for a book that people could just pick up, read a short while, and could still leave them with a feel good message. Your book was IT. Last week one of my clients, was in the waiting for a few minutes and picked up the book. She liked it so much that she asked where she could get a copy. I told her that I'd try to find out if we could buy it locally. I tried the Chapters website but did not find your book on its listing. I wonder if you could tell me how I might be able to buy three or four copies of that same book of quotes compiled by yourself … I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Hopefully yours,

A close friend gave me your book, "Quotes for Coping", a year ago...a book I open every day.... Now it is my turn to give it to one of my friends whose husband recently passed away. Please let me know where I could buy it. I presently reside in Florida. Many thanks.

I'm interested in purchasing one of your little Quotes for Coping books for a friend …Can you direct me to where I should go to access or order one? Additionally, have you published any others? Every once in a while I need some inspiration and the book comes in so handy that I'd like to share it around. Thanks

…Anyway, I am writing to ask you about purchasing 14 copies of your Quotes for Living book. Would it be possible, and also, would you be able to write an inscription so we can include them in our Spa Weekend presentation? Let me know how you want to coordinate the details. Thanks a lot!

Quotes For Coping has been an inspiration to me. Thanks for writing it. I would like to know how I might order additional copies by mail to give away as Christmas presents. My apologies for the short notice. Yours truly,

I am writing to you from Winter Park, Florida. Recently, my mother gave our 14 year old son, an avid writer, your signed Quotes for Writing, which she had purchased in the gift shop…We have enjoyed your book immensely and I even thought to give each member of my book group which meets monthly, a copy. We are having our year end celebration next week and I wanted to give the books at this time. After calling the gift shop, I was told that they had closed the store for the summer. I was wondering if I may order 14 copies from you directly???? Is this even possible???…Hoping this will work out.

Bought your book in Newport this weekend and I must tell you that it is wonderful!

I tend to be a “glass half full” sort of woman but don’t tell me that holding a job, raising three children, coping with a loving husband and doing community volunteering isn’t stressful. Your “Quotes for Coping” has been over my desk for years and I think I am wiser, funnier and calmer because of it.

While in Newport this Monday, I happened upon your volumes of quotes. As I simply could not choose one over the other I purchased both. While leafing through Quotes for Coping I noted the name "C. Hoppe" on p 84. It caught my eye as it is our last name and we rarely see it. One of our sons first initial was "C". Perhaps you could tell me more about the "C. Hoppe" quoted on p. 84. The quote fits our boy. Tragically he was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 19, but he left a wondrous legacy, having positively touched more lives in 19 years than most of touch in 60+. Thank you for your volumes of quotes. I am and will continue to enjoy them. I hope to hear from you in the future. Blessings,

I just completed your delightful compilation Quotes for Coping. I discovered your book at The Breakers gift shop after spending a memorable afternoon visiting the mansion with my wife and three children. When I picked up your book, I found it difficult to put down … But I did find out from the bookstore that one need not tour the mansion again to return to the gift shop. I asked the question specifically with returning to purchase your other books in mind.

I also thought the typeset and quality of the paper added to the enjoyment of the book. I started from the back and moved forward with a fountain pen checking off those quotes that touched my spirit. I have decided to take a hint from your title and actually copy down those bits of wisdom that spoke to my heart. It is interesting that the first quote you highlighted in your forward (the last thing I read) was the wonderful one from Martin Luther King, Jr. I remember when I came upon that piece of wisdom I thought of Jesus' own counsel along these lines and, oddly, became momentarily cynical and thought we live in a culture which is sadly dominated by people in power who have reversed King's wisdom, i.e. soft minded and tough hearted.

Ending your Forward with Plato's wisdom about the importance of kindness shows your own wisdom. I am an Episcopal Priest always in search of wisdom and stumbled across a wonderful quote that perhaps you might be able to use or perhaps have already used in a piece of work I have yet to read! It is from Frederick Buechner's Listening to Your Life. On page 293 he writes, "When Henry James, of all people, was saying goodbye once to his nephew Billy, his brother William's son, he said something that the boy never forgot. And of all the labyrinthine and impenetrably subtle things that that most labyrinthine and impenetrable old romancer could have said, what he did say was this: "There are three things that are important in human life. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. The third is to be kind."

Once again, thank you for taking the time to compile this beautiful book of wisdom. I wish you a blessed new year. Cheers,
--W.V. (Reverend)

I work for the founder and president of the … Foundation, [The President] was recently in Newport and picked up your book and fell in love with it. Our foundation provides scholarships for victims of domestic violence and would like to send each of our recipients a copy of your book. Would we be able to purchase 500 of your books and to whom would I speak about that?
--M.B. (Executive Director of foundation) from PA

“Men do not understand books until they have had a certain amount of life, or at any rate, no man understands a deep book until he has seen and lived at least part of its contents.” I read Ezra Pound’s quotation in your Quotes for Writing. It is among many sage and inspiring quotations that have sustained me as I, at the age of seventy four after a long professional career, work happily every day to complete my first novel.”

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen to me the other day. As I mentioned to you, I really felt your quote book helped a great deal when I was under cancer treatment. I know your book will do the same for others. I would like to make it available as a door prize gift and provide an opportunity for others to call you for a copy. If you could send some copies, I would appreciate that. In return, I will include your book on an advised reading list which will be given out to all the attendees and their families. I would also like to put a few copies in the cancer center library at Mt. Sinai Hospital which is available to patients and their families. The event will be on November 15th. I am one of the guest speakers and event coordinators and therefore I will make sure your books are presented attractively and sensibly.

I gave your Writing quote book to everyone in my reading group for an early Christmas gift. They all want to get more to give for Christmas presents. They will probably be e-mailing you. We really loved them and had fun reading them out loud and talking about them in regard to the book we were reading. Best time we ever had. Thank you. You are a write on!
--T.P. from Canada

I started reading one of your books last night…I am amazed. I will really enjoy reading, thinking and being challenged by what you have in a very talented way put together.
--B.A. from MA

I hope I have this e-mail right as I am remembering it from seeing it while on the toilet in a log cabin in Vermont (houseguest). Loved your little book of sayings about living. How can I order one?
--P.H. from NY

Thanks ever so much for the second round of books. Thought you might be curious as to their use. We have been using them in my calligraphy classes. My students have been copying down the marvelous quotes. It has been so nice for me to hand out proper books for them rather than little scraps of paper all round my studio. Again, thank you.
